In the Mix

As Africans navigate the complex postcolonial landscape, the tension between order and chaos is a constant reality. Historical legacies and contemporary challenges intertwine, shaping our experiences and defining our cultural identity. From the remnants of colonialism to the ongoing struggle for social justice, individuals must grapple with the forces that both constrain and empower them.
The presented artists – Admire Kamudzengere, Lilian Magodi, Mercy Moyo, Nyashadzashe Marovatsanga, Wycliffe Mundopa Sky Shingrai, and Terrence Musekiwa – use figuration and abstraction to offer insights into the multifaceted realities of African life today. The dialogue between colour, form, and texture reveals layers of identity, history, and modernity. Building on this idea of a “compound consciousness” where various aspects of existence overlap and interact – the artworks invite the viewer to confront the intersections of their experiences. Each piece encourages a reflective journey through a world where resolutions remain elusive, and the tensions between disparate forces continuously evolve in surprising and thought-provoking ways. In the Mix invites you to immerse yourself into the vibrant chaos of existence, where life remains messy, beautiful, and always in flux.
